A mid-week trip not too far from home
Our schedule has opened up somewhat to allow more camping. After getting the awning repaired, we needed to check it out. So, we went to Rice Creek.
9 miles from home. Site number 8.
We packed up mostly in the morning on Wednesday including shopping for food. The Subaru was having difficulty with its eyes since a rock hit it. So it went in to the dealer at 8:00 AM. We stopped at the grocery on the way home. It’s amazing how much longer our day is when we start it early.
We were just hooking up the trailer at 2:40 PM when they called to have us pick up the Subaru. We completed the hook up and drove the trailer to the campsite. We unhooked and left it to go and get the car. Lynn would need it to go feed the cats (and shower). We got to Subaru at 4:00 PM.
I got back to the site and had things set up, level, stabilized, and decorated by 5:05 PM.
Lynn and Crosby arrived very soon afterward. We had live music thanks to a Realtor party in the park (until 8:15 PM).
Dinner was cooked outside, but eaten inside due to the flies. We had taco salad.
- Note for future — plain corn tortilla chips don’t cut it for taco salad. Get the Dorito’s.
We were able to stream an episode of Modern Family on Hulu using the Roku and my iPhone. Bedtime was about 10:00 PM with 2 fans going due to the temperature.
We woke about 7:00 AM. It was a beautiful morning to sit out with our coffee. We did that until about 9:30. Breakfast was French Toast and sausage. Lynn left right after to feed the cats. I did the dishes, straightened the trailer and took a shower. Plus updating this journal. Where is Lynn?
Probably talking to Deanna. It is her birthday. She is now the same age as her mother was when she was born. Lynn returned and we had a campsite day.
Lunch meant lighting the oven. Always a ‘fun’ activity. We had ham & cheese croissants. Normally a breakfast meal for us, but a late substitution for brats for this meal.
More campsite lounging.

At 4:30 (I swear the dog can tell time) we went inside for Jeopardy. Lynn left afterward to feed the cats and water her plants. While she was gone, I started to pull together the evening meal, Tuna Spaghetti. Properly controlling the heat on the camp stove is always a challenge. Burnt capers would not be tasty.
After dinner we watched the January 6th Committee Hearings. It went on for 3 hours – so bedtime right after.
Lynn got up about 5:30 AM and took Crosby out. A few raindrops on her way back — hope we aren’t breaking camp in the rain. TV back on to find out — should be good to go dry.
Lynn left at 6:50 AM to feed the cats and showers. She then went to Deanna’s to watch the kids. She also took Crosby home. I get to have breakfast and break camp at my leisure. Simple breakfast — Cheerios.
Clean up and packing started at 8:00 AM. By 10:00 I was leaving the park after a dump station stop. At 10:14 I arrived home. By around 11:20, I had unloaded the trailer and mostly put away the things brought inside.
